KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Radford women's golf team completed its opening round of the three-day Palmetto Intercollegiate on Sunday at Turtle Point Golf Course. The Highlanders are currently tied for 19th in the event, which features one of the deepest tournament fields Radford has ever competed in.
 
Jayde Dudley leads the Highlanders after shooting an opening-round score of 75. Dudley led Radford in the opening round with three birdies and was consistent throughout the day, shooting nearly identical scores of 37 and 38 on the front and back nine, respectively.
 
Natalie Welsh shot a 5-over 77 in the opening round, making 12 pars and a birdie through her first 18 holes. Beatriz Mosquera Quintas fired a 6-over 78, which included an even-par 36 on the front nine.
 
As a team, Radford shot a score of 310 (22-over) to place in a tie for 19th with Elon. The Highlanders remain within striking distance of nearly everyone on the leaderboard, as 15 shots separate seventh-place Coastal Carolina from the Highlanders. Radford is currently 17 shots away from the fifth-place team, Marshall.
 
Overall, North Florida leads the field after shooting a score of 5-under par as a team (283). The Ospreys' Daniela Gonzalez and Jacksonville State's Claire Vermette share the individual lead at 4-under par (68).

The Highlanders return to Turtle Point for the second round of the Palmetto Intercollegiate on Monday. Riko Nagai will be the first to tee off for the Highlanders at 12:50 p.m.
