HIGHLANDERS TURN IN SOLID WOFFORD INVITE PERFORMANCE

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Highlanders started and finished strong while at the Wofford Invite this past weekend, featuring multiple singles victories for Radford.
 
FRIDAY
Kicking off the action for the weekend was doubles matches for the Highlanders. Anastasia Belyaeva and Drousile Dzeubou set the tone with a 6-3 victory over Western Carolina. Katey Fruehauf and Malin Falk also picked up a 6-4 victory against over fellow Big South foe USC Upstate. To finish off the trio of victories for the doubles teams, Marielle Leahy and Camryn McClure took down UNC Asheville 6-4.

For singles play Dzeubou started with an intense close match against Presbyterian, falling late 5-7, 6-3, 10-6. Belyaeva picked up a comeback victory over Western Carolina 5-7, 6-1, 10-5 while Falk and Cramer would drop their matches to Marshall. Fruehauf held on to win her first singles match against Wofford 6-2, 2-6, 10-6 with Leahy also coming out victorious in her match.

SATURDAY
For the second day of doubles, Leahy and McClure were the lone victors for the Highlanders with a strong 7-5 victory over Marshall. Belyaeva and Dzeubou played tough but dropped their two matches against Wofford and Marshall. Alexis Cramer also teamed up with Wofford to take on Gardner-Webb, but she came up short with her unique partner 6-2. Teaming up with Wofford again, Cramer rebounded and defeated Appalachian State. Fruehauf and Falk also played tough but dropped their two matches against Marshall and Presbyterian. Leahy and McClure would finish their strong run and doubles matches for the day with a tough loss to Gardner-Webb 7-6(3).

Starting singles matches, Dzeubou dropped her first match of the day to Western Carolina, with Belyaeva also dropping her match 6-3, 3-6, 10-6 against Marshall. Fruehauf dropped the final match of the day to Gardner-Webb.

SUNDAY
To finish off the weekend, Belyaeva started the Sunday morning for the Highlanders with a great 6-4, 5-7, 10-7 victory against Wofford. Dzeubou came up short 6-1, 6-3 against Gardner-Webb, while Fruehauf took her singles match against Appalachian State. The newcomer McClure also picked up a solid win against USC Upstate 6-7(5), 6-1, 10-4, while Cramer also was victorious against USC Upstate 6-4, 4-6, 10-8. That wrapped up play and the fall season for Radford.

UP NEXT
The Highlanders will take the winter off to get ready for their spring season.
