WOMEN’S TENNIS IMPROVES TO 2-0 IN BIG SOUTH PLAY FOR FIRST TIME SINCE 2012

NORFOLK, Va. – The Radford women's tennis team picked up a 6-1 win over Hampton on Saturday evening at Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center. The win gave Radford its first 2-0 start in Big South play since 2012.

The Highlanders began the day with a 1-0 lead after they picked up the doubles point with a pair of 6-1 victories on courts 1 and 3. Tyler Blalock and Jeanine Acierto picked up wins in singles play with 6-1, 6-1 victories. The two wins gave Radford a 3-0 lead.

Drousile Dzeubou gave Radford the victory with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Cherise Slocombe on court 2. Anastasia Belyaeva and Malin Falk increased the lead to 6-0 and the Highlanders were one win away from a sweep.

The sweep unfortunately did not happen as Julia D'Auvergne defeated freshman Marielle Leahy on court 6 in three sets. D'Auvergne won the first set, 6-4, but Leahy bounced back with a 6-0 triumph in set two. Ultimately, the Pirates won the point when D'Auvergne won the third set 6-4.
