RADFORD, Va. – Welcome to the Radford Roundup, where fans can find out all the information they need on upcoming Radford Athletics events taking place between Tuesday, March 12th through Thursday, March 14th.



 
  LACROSSE
 

vs. La Salle - Tues., March 11 @ Noon

  • The Highlanders will look to halt a three-game skid when the La Salle Explorers visit Cupp Stadium for the first time ever
  • With 10 goals in four games, junior attacker Lindsey Carroll currently ranks tied for third in the Big South with 2.5 goals per game.
  • Sophomore defender Rachel Rogers has been great so far. She is fourth in the conference with 2 caused turnovers per game and fifth with 3 ground balls per game.
  • La Salle is in its first season under brand new head coach Katie Rhodes Abbott, who previously served as the top assistant at Colgate.
  • Since winning their season opener, the Explorers have dropped five straight games while being outscored 61-38 over that time.
  • Sophomores Bridget Ruskey and Maddie Dachowski lead the team with 14 goals apiece. Fellow sophomore Molly Loughlin has started all six games in goal, collecting 61 saves and a .504 save percentage across 326 minutes played.

  • Radford returns to action after dropping three of four to Harvard over the weekend at Carter Memorial Stadium. The Highlanders avoided the sweep with a come-from-behind 13-7 victory on Sunday. Left fielder Adam Whitacre (2-for-3) homered and drove in five runs while shortstop Colby Higgerson and center fielder Kyle Butler also belted homers.  Second baseman David Bryant, right fielder Andrew Szamski and catcher Will Harless all produced a pair of hits.
  • Austin Gerber (1-1) came out of the bullpen to record the victory as the right-hander allowed just a run on two hits in 3.1 innings of work. Righty Ryan Bywaters allowed just one hit and pitched two scoreless innings with three strikeouts to close out the contest.
  • Whitacre hit an even .500 (6-for-12) with two homers and seven RBI's during the series. He leads the team in batting (.342), home runs (4), slugging percentage (.737) and total bases (28).
  • Third baseman Matt Roth went 4-for-10, drew four walks, homered and drove in four runs against the Crimson. Roth leads the team with 13 RBI's on the season.
  • RHP Cameron Fritz has been impressive out of the bullpen as he leads the team with a 2.61 ERA in four appearances this season. Fritz has allowed just six hits in 10.1 innings of work to go along with a team-leading 12 strikeouts.
  • The River Hawks are 1-12 but have played the likes of #9 Georgia, #5 North Carolina and perennial power Arizona.
  • Cam Climo is batting a team-high .340 and also leads the team in doubles (4) home runs (2) and RBI's (9).
  • Vinnie Martin also has two homers and nine RBI's.
  • Nick Rand has already made four starts and is 1-3 with a 5.87 ERA in 23.0 innings of work.
  • Gerry Siracusa has been effective out of the bullpen with a 2.70 ERA over 6.2 innings.
  • UMass-Lowell has pitched to a 11.35 ERA and the team is batting .238.


 
  MEN'S TENNIS
 

at College of Charleston - Tues., March 12 @ 4 p.m. | vs. Lehigh - Wed., March 13 @ 4:30 p.m.
Where: Charleston, S.C. (CofC Tennis Courts at Patriots Point)
Records: Radford (6-1) | College of Charleston (10-2) | Lehigh (6-2)
  • Radford enters with a 6-1 record, which is one of the best starts in program history through seven games.
  • Matko Varga and Michiel Meekers have a combined 14-0 record as both are 7-0 in singles play.
  • College of Charleston has played 12 matches and only has two losses. One of the losses was to James Madison and the other came to Virginia Tech.
  • Lehigh has two losses as well, which came to Villanova and Drexel in the first two matches of the season. Since then they have won six in a row.
  • The two teams will play each other on Monday night before facing Radford.


  WOMEN'S TENNIS
 

at Cal State Northridge (CSUN) - Wed., March 13 @ 5 p.m. | at Chapman - Thurs., March 14 @ 4 p.m.

Records: Radford (6-4) | CSUN (5-3) | Chapman (0-3)
  • Radford lost a conference match to Winthrop but bounced back to pick up a win at Savannah State last week.
  • Malin Falk was the only Highlander to win both her singles matches. She improved her record 7-3 this season.
  • Drousile Dzeubou has the best record on the team with eight wins and two losses. She has played all her matches as the No. 2.
  • CSUN has a 5-3 record and will play against Youngstown State on Monday. The Matadors are coming off a pair of wins against Southeastern Louisiana and Sacramento State.
  • Chapman is a Division III team out of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Association. They have faced on Division I team in Idaho State and suffered a 9-0 loss.
  • The Panthers will play a doubleheader on Tuesday before facing the Highlanders on Thursday.


  SOFTBALL
 

at Elon – Wed., March 13 @ 5 p.m.

  • The Highlanders are coming off a 1-4 weekend at the War Eagle Challenge. Radford faced tough competition in Louisville and No. 20 Auburn (twice) and Mercer. The Highlanders picked up their lone win against the Bears, 8-3.
  • Against Mercer, Radford had 10 hits including two-hit performances from Sydney Fisher, Sofia Tapia and Maggie Rowe.
  • Fisher still leads the team with a .419 batting average and 12 RBIs. Hunter Mundy isn't far behind with 10 of her own. The sophomore transfer also had a 19 game hitting streak snapped in the final game of the War Eagle Challenge against No. 20 Auburn.
  • Elon is coming off a 3-1 weekend at the UGA Classic, hosted by Georgia in Athens. The Phoenix only loss came to No. 8 Georgia, 5-0. However, Elon also picked up a win against the Bulldogs in a 5-4 contest.
  • Ashtyn Foddrell and Morgan Reich are each hitting .333 with a combined 10 doubles, two home runs and 17 runs scored.
  • Rebecca Murray and Erica Serafini have 15 RBIs each and are main components in the Phoenix outscoring their opponents 117-97.
  • Abby Barker (9-2) has started 11 games for Elon with 73.1 innings pitched and 37 strikeouts, leading the team in all three categories.
