WOMEN’S TENNIS FALLS TO CAMPBELL

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Radford women's tennis team fell to Campbell, 6-1, on Saturday afternoon in Buies Creek.

Despite Anastasia Belyaeva and Marielle Leahy having a lead on court 3 in doubles, the Highlanders fell behind early as the Fighting Camels picked up the doubles point with a 6-2 victory on court 1 and a 6-0 victory on court 2.

Tyler Blalock dropped the first singles competition of the match on court 4 before Katey Fruehauf fell 6-1 and 6-4 on court 5. That put the Highlanders in a 3-0 hole early.

Alexandra Nicoara clinched the match for Campbell with a 6-4, 6-2 win over freshman Leahy on court 6. The final three matches, and top three courts, were left to finish.

Drousile Dzeubou picked up a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Lou Regen on court 2. That gave the Highlanders their first and only point of the afternoon.

Malin Falk and Belyaeva fell in the third set tiebreakers. Falk won the second set but dropped the first and third, while Belyaeva did the same. She took the third set tiebreaker to the next set as she lost it 14-12.

The Highlanders will return to the friendly confines of Radford Tennis Complex on Wednesday as USC Upstate pays a visit at 2 p.m.
