WOMEN’S TENNIS WRAPS UP PLAY AT ELON INVITE

ELON, N.C. – The Radford women's tennis team kicked off its 2019-20 season with a solid showing at the Elon Invite, which began on Friday and ended on Sunday.

TOP SINGLES RESULTS
In day one of the invitational, the Highlanders won three matches from their top three players a season ago in Anasatasia Belyaeva, Drousile Dzeubou and Malin Falk. Falk had the top singles finish with a pair of wins over Jess Leeman (PC), 6-3, 7-5 and Uma Nayar (Elon) 7-5, 6-4. The two wins put her just one win away from competing in the Gold Singles bracket final but she fell to Raquel Amaro (ETSU), 6-1, 6-3. Falk also fell in the third-place match to Yumen Elizarras (ETSU), but finished fourth.

Belyaeva defeated Emma Cartledge (Emory) 6-1, 7-6(5) on Friday before falling to Mary Ann Rompf (Furman) on Saturday. Belyaeva won her final match on Sunday earning a 2-1 record over the weekend. Dzeubou beat Defne Olcay (Emory) 6-4, 5-7, 6-0 on Friday but fell to Andrea Pascual (ETSU) 7-5, 6-2 on Saturday. She won her final match on Sunday to cap off the weekend. Katey Fruehauf also won a pair of matches over the three day competition with a Friday night win and a Sunday morning victory.

After falling in the fall debut, Jeanine Acierto picked up a win on Saturday before falling in her final match on Sunday. Freshman Camryn McClure won her Sunday match over Laura Illanes (UPST) and so did Marielle Leahy.

TOP DOUBLES RESULTS
Two of the four doubles pairs picked up wins on Friday's opening round. Those two pairs were Belyaeva/Cramer and Leahy/McClure. However, the two pairs would be unable to pick up any more wins.

Acierto/Freuhauf and Falk/Dzeubou dropped their first two matches but were able to pick up wins on the final doubles round of competition. Acierto/Freuhauf defeated Cnossen/Gaines (NCCU) on Sunday, 6-2, while Falk/Dzeubou beat Hellberg/Jardim (UPST), 6-3.

STAT OF THE WEEKEND
