RADFORD SPLITS ON OPENING DAY OF OYSTER SHUCK MATCH PLAY

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Radford women's golf team opened play on Monday at the Oyster Shuck Match Play, splitting the two matches played. The Highlanders defeated host institution The Citadel in the quarterfinals before losing to Morehead State in a close semifinal match.

Playing with four golfers for the tournament, the Highlanders were forced to concede one of the five matches in both the quarterfinals and semifinals. Despite that, Radford pulled out wins in each of the four remaining matches against the Citadel, including wins by Natalie Welsh and Sidney Walker that required going to a playoff. Jayde Dudley and Beatriz Mosquera Quintas won comfortably in their matches, 8 & 6 and 6 & 4, respectively.

The Highlanders faced stiff competition in the semifinals against Morehead State, the second seed in the tournament. Radford took two of the three completed matches, but the Highlanders had to concede one match due to having four players and Mosquera Quintas conceded her match. Dudley and Walker each posted their second win of the day, 3 & 2 and 4 & 3, respectively, while Welsh fell in her match, 4 & 3.
