10/2/2021 6:22:00 PM | Men's Soccer
FAIRFAX, Va. – Junior midfielder Juan Benavides buried a pair of penalty kicks to earn a brace, but it wasn't quite enough as the Radford Men's Soccer team fell to George Mason, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon.
The Patriots were the first to get on the scoreboard, using a low strike from Louis Lehr to take the lead in the 26th minute.
Radford pushed ahead and earned a penalty kick after a hard foul in the box in the 61st minute. Benavides stepped up and hit the back of the net for his second goal of the season and first since the season opener against Concord in August.
George Mason regained the lead with a goal in the 75th minute and then added a late insurance goal in the 83rd minute to make it 3-1.
The Highlanders were chopped down in the box one more time and Benavides proceeded to add a second goal in the 89th minute. Despite the visitors' best efforts, time ran out before the equalizer could be found.
