Radford Baseball Announces 2022 Schedule

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford baseball program has released its 2022 schedule, which includes 14 unique non-conference opponents as well as the return to a full 24-game Big South Conference schedule. Highlighted on the schedule is the season-opening South Alabama Invitational, as well as trips to ACC foes Virginia Tech and NC State.

The Highlanders will begin their season on Feb. 18 as they travel to Mobile, Ala. for the South Alabama Invitational. The four-team, three-day tournament features games against South Alabama, Oral Roberts, and Tennessee Tech. Radford will be facing each of those programs for the first time.

Following a midweek game at Davidson, Radford will have their season-opener on Feb. 25 as they play host to Bucknell for a three-game series. It will be the first meeting between the schools since 2019, and the first matchup in Radford since 1993. The Highlanders own an 11-1 advantage in the all-time series with Bucknell.

The following week, Radford will welcome Liberty to Carter Memorial Stadium on Mar. 1. The Flames are returning to Carter Memorial Stadium for the first time since leaving the Big South Conference at the conclusion of the 2018 season. The matchup is part of a 12-game non-conference home stand for the Highlanders, who will also welcome Maryland Eastern-Shore (Mar. 4-6) and Saint Joseph's (Mar. 11-13) for weekend series.

In the Big South portion of the schedule, Radford will host USC Upstate (Mar. 25-27), Gardner-Webb (Apr. 8-10), UNC Asheville (Apr. 22-24), and Longwood (May 13-15). The matchup with UNC Asheville will mark the first time the Bulldogs have visited Radford since 2018, while the series against Longwood will serve as the home finale.

Elsewhere, Radford will travel to nearby Blacksburg as they take on Virginia Tech in a midweek contest on Mar. 22. The history between the two programs is extensive, as the Highlanders and Hokies have met 64 times, the most among any Radford opponent outside of the Big South. Tech has been victorious in each of the past four meetings, as well as six straight in Blacksburg.

In total, the Highlanders' 2022 slate features 53 games, including 28 at the friendly confines of Carter Memorial Stadium. Other notable non-conference matchups include two games at East Tennessee State (Mar. 15 and Mar. 29) as well as a three-game set at NC State (Apr. 29-May 1). The Wolfpack made a deep NCAA tournament run a season ago, winning the Fayetteville Regional over Arkansas before falling to Vanderbilt in the College World Series.

The non-conference portion of the schedule will conclude on the weekend of May 7-8, as Radford travels to Annapolis, Md. for a date with Navy. The series features a doubleheader on Saturday with the third game on Sunday. The Highlanders and Midshipmen will meet on the diamond for the first time since 1993, as Radford has won the two previous matchups.

The Highlanders close out the 2022 regular season campaign on May 19-21 as they travel to Campbell. Radford is looking to snap a five-game losing streak against the Fighting Camels, their last win coming in April of 2019.

Following the conclusion of the regular season, Radford will travel to High Point, N.C. for the 2022 Ingles Big South Baseball Championship. The tournament will be held Wednesday-Saturday, May 25-28, at Truist Point, the home of the High Point Rockers.
