 BASEBALL

  • Radford is on the road for four games this week, beginning with a midweek at Liberty on Tuesday and then opening Big South play with a three-game set at USC Upstate.
  • Sean Cheely finished a single shy of the cycle in Sunday's win over Villanova. The senior outfielder hit his first homer in a Radford uniform during that game.
  • Radford's pitching staff allowed just four runs in a two-game sweep of Villanova. Radford's starting pitchers have allowed three earned runs or fewer in every game this season.
  • Cheely, Dac Archer and Anthony Galati are all hitting at least .300 for the Red and White so far, with Cheely's .444 average leading the way.
  • More than half of the pitchers Radford has used this season have an ERA under 3.20, with five of those being perfect 0.00 ERAs.
  • Liberty is 2-5 this season after dropping two of three to Campbell to open the year and being swept by TCU on the road over the weekend. The Flames also have a midweek win over North Carolina A&T.
  • The Flames are the reigning ASUN champions and were picked to finish first this season.
  • USC Upstate is 6-0 after sweeping Toledo and College of Charleston to begin the season. The Spartans were picked to finish third in the Big South.

  • The Highlanders will open its home slate on Friday afternoon in a doubleheader against Western Carolina.
  • Radford (2-7) picked up a pair of victories at Norfolk State on Friday afternoon.
  • It was a solid pitching performance by Jessie Marvin in game one and Sarah Smith in game two.
  • Riley Oakes went 3-for-4 in game two of the day, while Sydney Fisher added a multi-hit game as well.
  • Liberty (9-5) have lost four of its five to Top 15 teams (Alabama & LSU). The other came against Notre Dame, but the Flames topped the Fighting Irish for one of their nine wins. Amber Bishop leads the team with a .457 batting average and five home runs.
  • Western Carolina (3-9) has lost nine of its last 10 after starting the year 2-0, but the Catamounts most recently topped Longwood, 6-4, on Sunday. WCU will play Presbyterian in a doubleheader on Wednesday. The team has 15 doubles and Anna-Paige Pelfrey had 1/3 of them, leading the team with five.
  • North Carolina A&T (0-8) has fallen to Georgia State, Presbyterian, Elon and UNCG. They will take on Gardner-Webb on Thursday. The Aggies have been outscored 74-16 this season.
 
 WOMEN'S SOCCER

  • Radford returns home for its first Big South contest since the 2019 season.
  • The Highlanders will take on Campbell at 2 p.m., inside Cupp Stadium.
  • After an 8-0 rout of Roanoke College, the Highlanders fell to Presbyterian last time out.
  • Radford was supposed to play USC Upstate on Feb. 28th but the game was postponed due to the Spartans not having enough players healthy to play.
  • The Blue Hose sunk a shot in the 83' despite the Highlanders leading in shots, 14-10. Lily McLane led with four of the Highlanders 14 shots.
  • Campbell fell to High Point last time out, but the Camels defeated UNC Asheville, 1-0 on Feb. 21. CU also played NC State to open the season on Feb. 16. Cameron Turner has the team's only goal this season.

 
 MEN'S SOCCER

  • Radford won its first match of the season Sunday when it took down Gardner-Webb, 1-0. The win was the first for Chris Barrett as interim head coach.
  • Ryan Machado-Jones scored the game-winning goal for the Highlanders with Radford's only shot of the game.
  • Joseba Incera earned his first win and clean sheet of the season after making two saves.
  • Patrick Siczek is the only outfield player to play all 270 minutes this season for Radford.
  • Radford has won each of the last three meetings against VMI and seven of the last nine against the Keydets.
  • Octavio Ocampo made his season debut Sunday and played all 90 minutes, helping the Highlanders keep a clean sheet.
  • VMI enters the week 2-1-0 overall. The Keydets have won back-to-back matches for the first time since the 2010 season, although both wins came against Division III competition.
  • The Keydets were picked to finish last in the SoCon this season and lost 5-0 to Gardner-Webb in their only game against a Division I opponent so far this season.

  • Radford brings an 0-3 record into their third week of competition after facing tough non-conference opponents like No.10 ranked Richmond, Coastal Carolina, and VCU. 
  • The Highlanders last faced-off with Liberty in 2018 in a home loss, the Flames are off to a 1-3 start this year after dropping matches to Virginia Tech and Robert Morris.
  • This will also be the first ever meeting between Radford and George Mason. The Patriots are still looking for their first win this season after dropping games to #21 Navy and Towson.
  • The match on Saturday will be senior day for Radford, as the Highlanders will honor Jennifer Shield, Lindsey Carroll, Brittany Rinaldi, Katie Bendrick, and Rachel Rogers.

  • Coming off a strong home victory over Bluefield State College last week, the Highlanders will take on UNC Greensboro early in the week and then travel to a former Big South foe to end the week.
  • Carrying over from last year, Radford is currently riding an eleven match winning streak that includes a victory over UNC Greensboro in 2020.
  • The freshmen Aditya Balsekar and Guilherme Severin both won their singles and doubles debuts last week.
  • Liberty is already in mid-season form playing 10 matches so far with big wins against Old Dominion and Charlotte.
  • UNC Greensboro is searching for its first win after dropping four straight to teams such as UNC Asheville and ETSU.

  • After home court victories over Bluefield State College and Towson, the Highlanders turn their focus to two strong opponents in North Carolina.
  • Freshmen Salma Loudili and Emily Brandow both made strong Highlander debuts last week winning both of their matches in singles and doubles.
  • Dating back to 2020, the Highlanders are on an eight game winning streak with five of those wins coming away from the home courts.
  • Radford last played Elon on the road in 2019 coming up just short 2-5 in the match. Tyler Blalock, Katey Fruehauf, and Jeanine Acierto all competed in that match in 2019.

  • Radford will conclude its modified season with the Big South Championships hosted by Winthrop University.
  • The women will look to continue their strong success this season after a second and first place finish against Big South competition.
  • Rachel Millirons has been the Highlanders top contributor this season finishing first in both races the team competed in this year.
  • The men's team has also put up strong results this season finishing first and second in their two races against Big South competition as well.
  • Not one runner has been the lead competitor for the men as it has been a strong team effort from all athletes this year, with freshman Joshua Daggett being the top finisher for the Highlanders at the Highlander Invitational and Callum Wilson being the highest finishing Highlander at the Winthrop Invitational.
 
 WOMEN'S GOLF

  • Radford begins its season at the Kiawah Island Classic, the first of six tournaments for the Highlanders this season. The Highlanders will be in action in consecutive weeks, as they head to the Winthrop Invitational on March 8-9.
  • The Highlanders were tied for 26th after the first round of the Kiawah Island Classic, but were within striking distance of both the top half of the field (four shots back) and the top 10 (six shots back).
  • Radford set its school record 54-hole scoring last season at the William & Mary Fall Invitational (904).
  • Jayde Dudley returns for her sophomore season after earning Big South Freshman of the Week five times during the 2019-20 season. Dudley's stroke average of 75.35 is among the best in school history.
  • Team captain Sidney Walker leads a team that returns four starters from its 2019-20 roster. Walker also earned Big South All-Academic honors and earned her first career Big South Golfer of the Week award last year.
  • Jimenna Ramirez and Niki Batac are the new faces to the team this year, with each having four years of eligibility.
