Radford Tops ETSU in Midweek Tilt

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford baseball team plated nine runs on 10 hits in a 9-5 victory over ETSU on Tuesday night at Carter Memorial Stadium.
 
The Highlanders erased a 1-0 ETSU lead with four runs on three hits in the fourth inning. Sean Cheely highlighted the inning with a two-run double.
 
The Buccaneers cut into the lead with two runs in the sixth inning but Radford nullified the runs with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning. Jalen Buster scored from second on a wild pitch with a 2-2 count. The inning ended on the next pitch, which got Cheely swinging.
 
Buster went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Cheely added a double and a triple with a 2-for-5 night and three RBIs. Will Harless added a multi-hit game with a single and a double.
 
ETSU hit back-to-back home runs to start the seventh inning but the Big South Reliver of the Week, Bruce Hudson, was able to get out the inning without any more runs allowed. He kept the lead intact at 6-5.
 
His offense was able to add two more in the bottom of the frame with heads up base running. Cheely added the final run of the game with an RBI triple plating Garrett Matheny from first.
 
Four pitchers saw action on the mound for Radford including a start from Hunter Williams. Brock Smith struck out four and won his first game as a Highlander. Bruce Hudson and Alex Perkins struck out three each and Perkins earned his fourth save of the season.
 
ETSU had eight pitchers make an appearance. Daulton Montagna suffered the loss for the Buccaneers.
 
Up Next
Radford will welcome USC Upstate to Carter Memorial Stadium for a three-game set beginning on Friday at 1 p.m., and a doubleheader on Saturday also beginning at 1 p.m.
