RADFORD, Va. – Welcome to the Radford Roundup, where fans can find out all the information they need on upcoming Radford Athletics events taking place between Monday May 3rd through Monday May 10th.

 BASEBALL

  • The Highlanders are coming off a tough weekend after losing a series at Longwood.
  • In the opener, Bruce Hudson and Landon Higgerson finished the night well with giving up just two runs over the final 3.2 innings of the game. 
  • Sean Cheely was an on base machine in the first game against Longwood, walking a total three times while also collecting a hit.
  • In the second game of the series David Bryant reached base in all four of his plate appearances with two walks and two hits. On the mound Greg Duncan threw a solid seven innings for the Highlanders to perserve the bullpen, striking out seven Lancers.
  • A comeback attempt came up just short in the series finale, as the Highlanders tallied 10 hits with Garrett Matheny, Bryant, and Will Harless all recording multi hit days.
  • This weekend series will be a big one for the Highlanders as the Camels come into this series off a sweep of a UNC Asheville, winning six of their last nine games.

  • Radford dropped a three-game series to Campbell last time out. It was the first time all season that the Highlanders were unable to win at least one game in a conference series.
  • The Highlanders look to bounce back with a four-game series at Norfolk State.
  • Following the midweek series, Radford's postseason hopes will be put to the test when Winthrop comes to Radford Softball Stadium.
  • If Radford wins the series, the Highlanders will take the fourth and final spot of the Big South Tournament.
  • Sydney Fisher leads the Highlanders with a .383 batting average and Riley Oakes is right behind her with a .316 average. Fisher tallied six hits in the series against Campbell.
  • Norfolk State enters with five batters hitting over .300, led by Denisha Megginson's .350 average.
  • Tuli Iosefa has 13 extra-base hits and has a team-leading 32 RBIs.
  • Winthrop is led by Macy McCall with a .362 batting average and 40 runs scored.
  • The Eagles have a pair of big bombers in Ansley Gilreath and Taylor Charlton with a combined 23 home runs, including a team-high 12 by Gilreath.
  • Madyson Watson has seen action in 30 games this season. She leads the team with a 2.84 ERA and 162.2 innings pitched with 180 strikeouts.

  • Over the next two weeks the Highlanders will wrap up their regular season and move on to the postseason for the Liberty Twilight and Big South Championships.
  • A small group of Highlanders went to the Virgninia Grand Prix this past weekend and posted strong marks.
  • Rachel Werking set a new record in the steeplechase event, beating her previous record by a whole nine seconds at 10:40.34.
  • Rachel Millirons also set a new personal record and put herself second all-time in the record books with a time of 17:11 in the 5k.
  • MacKenzie Gardner rounded out the competitors with a new personal best time in the 1500m.
