Women's Golf Tied For 5th Through One Round At Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – Sitting as high as second place with four holes left to play, the Radford women's golf team settled into a tie for fifth place after one round at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate on Sunday.

Thanks to some overnight rain that continued into the morning, the Highlanders' didn't tee off for their shotgun start until Noon. The three-hour delay didn't appear to affect them at all, as Head Coach Jeff Beeler's team combined to shoot a very strong 304 across the first 18 holes.

Natalie Welsh and Hannah Lindemann have repeatedly played well this season and today was no different as the duo tied for 7^th place with matching 2-over par 73's.

Welsh was one of just three competitors to sink an eagle on the day, finishing the Par 5 14^th hole in three shots. She also added a birdie on the 18^th hole, helping her post the second-best score in the 90-golfer field on both Par 3's and Par 5's. Her 13 pars were tied for the second-most of anyone as well.

Lindemann accounted for three of the Highlanders' eight birdies in the first round, beating par on the 8^th, 14^th, and 17^th holes. The sophomore was one of the very best on Par 3's and Par 5's too, shooting a combined -1 on those trips down the course.

The pairing of Jayde Dudley and Niki Batac went shot-for-shot, tying for 45^th with an 8-over par 79. Dudley went the entire back nine without recording a bogey while Batac was responsible for another three of Radford's birdies.

Jimenna Ramirez shot a 9-over par 80, with a birdie on the 15^th hole highlighting her outing.

Playing for the first time since winning Big South Freshman of the Week honors last month, Shea Smith entered the tournament as an individual and is in 72^nd place with two rounds to go.
