Welsh Tied For Fifth After First Round of Big South Women's Golf Championships

GREENWOOD, S.C. – Playing in the final tournament of her collegiate career, Natalie Welsh set the tone for the Radford women's golf team in the first round of the Big South Championships on Monday, tying for fifth out of 50 golfers in the field. The Highlanders ended the day in ninth place as a team.

Welsh shot a 3-over par 75 in her first trip through a new conference championship course, a round highlighted by birdies on the 11^th and 13^th holes. The fifth-year senior shot even on Par 3's and was near the top of the field with 11 total pars.

The first round wasn't as kind to the rest of the squad as Niki Batac was next closest at +9, good for a tie for 35^th place.

Hannah Lindemann and Jimenna Ramirez battled to matching +11 scores, finishing Wednesday tied for 41^st. Ramirez added one birdie to the team's total, needing just three strokes to complete the Par 4 16^th hole.

Jayde Dudley tallied a birdie of her own on the 10^th hole, but she ultimately carded a 16-over par 88 and will head into Thursday in 49^th place.

Gardner-Webb and High Point are tied for first at +15 while USC Upstate's Beem Pabsimma and Gardner-Webb's Linnea Hofgren sit tied atop the individual leaderboard at -1.
