Women’s Basketball Falls in NRV Meeting at Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Radford women's basketball program fell to a tough Virginia Tech squad in their New River Valley showdown Sunday afternoon falling in a 73-34 final.

With a short turn around coming off just playing this past Friday night, the Highlanders came out firing early thanks to a three-pointer from Cate Carlson. A three-pointer from Joi Williams would extend Radford's lead to 6-3, but a 15-0 run to end the quarter gave Virginia Tech the 18-6 advantage.
Layups from Taylor Napper, Anna Stromberg and Makayla Firebaugh made up the Highlanders lone makes in the second while the Hokies kept chugging along to build their lead to 49-12 at the half.
The Hokies came out firing similarly in the third quarter, but Radford was able to end the quarter on an 8-3 run thanks to threes by Adelyn Traylor-Walker and Firebaugh with some free throws from Kirah Dandridge.
Two pointers from Napper and Carlson along with two good free throws from Firebaugh would help the Highlanders reach the 30-point mark midway through the fourth. The Hokies ultimately pulled away, finishing the 73-34 final.

UP NEXT
The Highlanders will get some time to regroup before returning home after four straight road games. Radford will host UVA-Wise on Friday, December 20th as the second part of a doubleheader with the men's basketball team. Action is set to begin at 3:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
