BOX SCORE GREENVILLE, S.C. – Radford women's lacrosse fell to Furman during their final mid-week conference game 24-5.
Furman was first to score off the draw control but were unable to hold onto the lead long as
Mady Cheney scored her first goal of the game to tie it up. Furman took advantage of openings, including another free position, to go up 3-1 against the Highlanders.
However, Cheney was not done scoring as she made back-to-back goals to earn her hat trick less than five minutes into the game to set the score at three apiece. Furman went on to score the next four goals despite defensive efforts from
Hannah Hanger with a caused turnover and two ground balls from
Taylor Rogahn.
The Paladins' run continued as they got the first goal of the second quarter. The next five minutes consisted of a back-and-forth fight in possession including ground ball pickups from
Linley Tirrell,
Lauren Davis and
Emily Strother. With the assist from
Margaret Gleason, Hanger was able to break Furman's run as she shot the ball from behind her back to set the score at 8-4. Furman went on another run to close out the first half 14-4.
Cheney made her fourth goal to kick the scoring off for the second half. Furman responded and continued to pull ahead and ultimately win 24-5.
