RADFORD, Va. - The Radford women's soccer program and head coach
Ben Sohrabi announced Friday afternoon that
Davis Fox will now serve as associate head coach for the upcoming 2024 season.
Fox is entering his fourth season with the women's soccer program after spending the last three seasons as an assistant coach. Over that span, Radford's defense and goalkeeping has excelled under Fox's guidance. In his second and third seasons at Radford, the Highlanders won back-to-back tournament championships and a regular season championship in 2023. The two tournament wins led the Highlanders to a pair of NCAA Tournament berths. In the 2022 tournament, Radford drew one of the top offenses in Division I in second-seeded Duke and again faced the nation's top offense in one-seed Clemson in 2023. Despite that, Radford's defense allowed just six total goals in those two matches including an incredible showing at Clemson allowing just a pair of late second half scores.
"Davis has done a great job the past three years," added head coach Sohrabi. "He has had an influence on every facet of the program, but has specialized with our defense and goalkeeping. Davis does the job of an assistant and a director of operations and I think this title defines what he does for the program. His passion for the sport and the program is there 24/7."
This past season, Radford's defense excelled keeping opponents at bay for dominant victories. The Highlanders posted six shutouts, allowing just a 1.20 goals against average mark. Freshman
Lexi Radvanyi took over the starting role in the net, playing over 1,000 minutes, totaling 71 saves, 10 winning decisions, and 1.06 goals against average. Radvanyi came up just short of the conference's goalkeeper of the year award, but still earned all-freshman and all-conference second-team nods for her efforts.
In 2022, Radford posted one of its best defensive seasons in program history, finishing top-10 in multiple categories. The Highlanders earned eight shutouts on the season, including five straight to end the season which helped the team clinch a Big South tournament spot, an eventual tournament championship and a spot in the NCAA Tournament. Sophomore
Jordan Phillips took over goalkeeping duties and was impressive, playing 1395 minutes with 56 saves, 10 winning decisions and a 1.03 goals against average. As a team, Radford's defense ranked top-100 in Division I.
During Fox's debut season in 2021, Radford's defense was the backbone of a program looking to get back on track following the complicated COVID-19 pandemic. With senior keeper Lauren Seedlock in the net, Radford's defense allowed just 0.97 goals against average over 19 matches. The Highlanders posted 11 shutouts which tied for fourth-most in program history. The Highlanders went on a late season run of seven straight shutouts (698Â straight minutes) to earn a berth in the conference tournament semifinals.
