CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Radford Women's Golf team with the help of a late third round birdie by Shea Smith would allow the Highlanders to clinch third overall in the final standings at Oyster Shuck Match Play on Tuesday evening.
The Highlanders played a close one in the first round, edging out in-state and conference rival Longwood. Hannah Lindemann, Shea Smith, and Grace Addison were all able to secure wins in their pairings. The Lancers were able to secure two points in the round, but it wouldn't be enough as Radford would still get the 3-2 victory and advance to the winner's bracket to face Samford.
In the second, the Highlanders would fall 3-1 to Samford. Mckenzie Weddle was able to secure a draw while Addison would win her second straight pairing to give Radford a point. But the Bulldogs were able to secure three wins to give themselves the 3-1 win over the Highlanders.
Despite the second-round loss, the Radford women's golf program still had the opportunity to secure third place against conference foe Gardner-Webb on the second and final day. The Highlanders would secure two points from the efforts of Addison, who would win her third straight pairing and Lindemann, who bounced back after falling in the second. The Runnin' Bulldogs would acquire two points as well to tie the round at 2-2. However, a 20-foot birdie by Smith on the final hole of the round would give the win to the Highlanders and allow Radford to clinch third in the final standings.
