KEY STORYLINES
Last Time Out: Radford let a game firmly in their grasp slip away in their loss to Charleston Southern last Saturday. With the Highlanders up by 17 points with under eight minutes in regulation, the Buccaneers hit six of their last seven three-point attempts and finished on a 27-6 run to win 63-59. The loss was Radford's first at home against Charleston Southern since 2010.

In the Details: The loss on Saturday was just Radford's second when leading at halftime (7-2). They also fell to 4-5 coming off a win…3-4 in games decided by 4-10 points…3-8 when shooting less than 40 percent…6-4 when their opponent shoots less than 40 percent…3-7 when being outrebounded…1-6 when opponent has more free throw attempts…1-6 when scoring less than 60 points.

Georgia on my Mind: Georgia Simonsen picked up her third Big South Freshman of the Week award after two strong performances against Presbyterian and Charleston Southern last week. She led the Highlanders in scoring to open Big South play, tying her career high with 15 points in each contest. She made a career-best five free throws against Presbyterian, while setting several career highs against Charleston Southern, including 28 minutes played and seven made field goals. Simonsen is the first Radford freshman since Joi Williams in 2023 to reach double figures in her first two Big South contests and just the third since at least the 2007-08 season.

Just Being Joi: Junior guard Joi Williams was back in double figures on Saturday, adding 12 points against the Buccaneers. The preseason Big South All-Conference First Team member leads the Highlanders with 12.1 points per game which is also 10th best in the conference. Williams has moved into fifth place on the Radford all-time three-point field goals made list with 135. Next up is Ashlay Buckhannon (2009-13) in fourth place with 158.

Windows are Clean: Radford's streak of seven games with 40+ rebounds was snapped last Saturday (34). They are second in the Big South with 41.1 rebounds per game, behind USC Upstate's average of 41.4. Radford also ranks second in the Big South in offensive (13.9 per game) and defensive rebounds (27.2 per game) and third in rebounding margin.

Milestone Mike: Head Coach Mike McGuire became the first Radford basketball coach and the sixth Big South women's basketball coach to reach 200 career wins after the victory at Hampton on December 18, joining Carey Green (440 at Liberty, 1999-2018), Rick Reeves (290 at Liberty [1991-1999] and Gardner-Webb [2008-2018]), Ronny Fisher (232 at Presbyterian [2008-2016] and Campbell [2016-2023]), Wanda Watkins (230 at Campbell 1986-1994 and 2011-2016), and Alan LeForce (228 at Coastal Carolina 1997-2013). He is the fourth coach to get 200 wins at the same institution in the Big South and currently the only active coach in the Big South with 200 wins.

Scouting High Point: The Panthers have yet to face a serious challenge in Big South play, rolling UNC Asheville (78-51), USC Upstate (72-58), and Presbyterian (76-43) for a 3-0 start in conference. They've won 11 straight at the Qubein Center (9-0 this season), with their last home loss coming to the hands of the Highlanders on February 5, 2025. The Panthers are led by a pair of guards, junior Macy Spencer and graduate student Aaliyah Collins. Spencer, a transfer in from UNLV, leads all Big South scorers with 18.4 points per game and has scored at least 20 points against Big South opponents. Collins is averaging 17.1 points per game and is second in the conference with a 54.4% field goal percentage. As of January 8, High Point is 37th nationally in field goal percentage (46%) and 46th in points per game (76.8).
