Highlanders Start Big South Tournament Strong, Tied for Second After First Round

FRIPP ISLAND, S.C. – The Radford women's golf program kicked off their 2025 title defense strong Sunday afternoon competing in the 2026 Big South Championship, ending the day tied for second after one round of play.

Mckenzie Weddle led the Highlanders through the first round playing 1-over, which was good for the sixth best on the individual leaderboard. She began her day with a birdie on hole eight and quickly followed with another birdie on hole ten. After shooting par on six of the next seven holes, she recorded her final birdie of the day on the 18th hole.

Just as Weddle did, Caroline Gilreath birdied on her first hole of the day, hole nine, and would also birdie on the 18th hole. Overall, on the day she tied with teammates Grace Addison and Shea Smith at five-over and tied for 13th individually.

Addison shook off a shaky start and shot either a birdie or par over 11 of the last 12 holes she played. Smith was solid throughout and Macy Johnson rounded out the solid performances of the day as every Highlander finished within the top half of the field.
