HUNTINGTON, W.Va – Freshmen
Katie Shaffer (Virginia Beach, Va. /Ocean Lakes) is reshaping the Radford diving records. Shaffer broke the three-meter diving record that has stood for five years and the one-meter diving record that has been around for four years.
Shaffer placed third on the three-meter board with a score of 204.68, which crushed the old school record by forty points. She placed on the one-meter board with a score of 175.43, which betters the old score by eight points. Shaffer counterpart on the boards,
Alexa Marsden (Downington, Pa./Downingtown) placed fifth in both the three-meter and one-meter diving events.
In the pool, freshmen
Alexa Sears (Newport News, Va. /Menchville) out touched Marshall's Susan Velte by twenty-four tenths of a second to capture second place in the 100-yard backstroke. Junior
Lauren Wensel (Christiansburg, Va. /Christiansburg) and freshman
Ashley Maness (Conway, S.C./Carolina First) finished third and fourth in the 1,000-yard freestyle respectively.
Freshmen
Whitney Friend (Charlottesville, Va. /Albemarle) and
Madison Mantiply (Woodridge, Va. /Woodridge) each finished third in their respective events. Friend recorded a time of 2:34.57 in the 200-yard butterfly and Mantiply garnered a time of 27.01 in the 50-yard freestyle.
The Highlanders will be back in action on October 25 when they face in-state rival James Madison.
