LEXINGTON, VA. – Radford's swimming and diving team defeated their conference foe VMI 121-42 Saturday evening at the Clark King Hall Pool, on post at VMI. The Highlanders placed first in all 11 events. Freshmen
Whitney Friend (Charlottesville, Va.),
Madison Mantiply (Woodridge, Va.) and
Dani Van Kerckhove (Roanoke, Va.) each placed first in two events.
Friend swept the 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard butterfly events. Her times of 1:07.00 in the butterfly and 1:05.83 were just seconds short of her personal best. Mantiply won the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle with times of 27.01 and 59.82. Van Kerckhove captured first in the 500-yard and 200-yard freestyle events.
Katie Shaffer (Virginia Beach, Va.) continues her assault on the Radford diving records. Shaffer placed first in both the one-meter and three-meter diving events. Shaffer broke her own one-meter diving record by three points with a score of 190.75 and her three-meter record by 12 points with a score of 234.60. Her counterpart,
Alexa Marsden (Downingtown, Pa.) placed second in both diving events. Marsden improved by seven points in the one-meter with a score of 145.30 and by two points in the three-meter with a score of 138.15.
The Highlanders will be back in action on November 8 when they face St. Mary's and Wagner.
