Highlanders Topple Aggies 120-74

Radford's swimming and diving finished first in all but two events and defeated the Aggies of North Carolina A&T, 120-74.  The Highlanders (2-9, 2-5) got a healthy contribution from sophomore Alexis Butner and freshman Ashley Maness (Conway, S.C./Carolina Forest) as they each placed first in two events.

Butner had a season's best time of 1:11.57 in the 100 breaststroke and 1:02.69 in the 100 butterfly. She was also seconds off her life time best in both of these events. Maness captured first place the in 500 freestyle with a time of 5:39.45 and in the 200 IM with a time 2:23.58. 

“It was a good team effort, everyone swam well especially Alexis Butner,” said head coach Randy Jarman. 

Kate Keck (Millersville, Pa. /Penn Manor) recorded a first place finish in the 200 freestyle along with a second place in the 500 freestyle. Freshmen #Whitney Friend# (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) and Julia Hoffman (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) each recorded a first place finish as well, Friend in the 1,000 freestyle and Hoffman in the 100 freestyle. 

The team of #Erica Kappert# (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point), #Morgan Hinson# (Virginia Beach, Va./Frank W Cox), Butner and Keck reached the winner's circle in the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:20.65. 

“With the conference championship only a few weeks away, this gives us some momentum going into it,” commented Jarman. 

The Highlanders will be back in the pool on February, 19 in Athens, Georgia for the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Championship.
