RADFORD, Va. – The Radford University swimming and diving team recorded seven personal bests and two new school records as the Highlanders fell to James Madison, 173-110, on Saturday afternoon at the Dedmon Center Natatorium.
With the loss the Highlanders fall to 0-3 on the year, while the Dukes improve to 3-0.
Katie Shaffer (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) continues her assault on the record books, breaking both her previous records on the one and three-meter boards. Shaffer shattered her one-meter record by 57 points with a score of 259.35. She then took aim at her three-meter record, which she broke by 22 points, with a score of 256.87.
The first event of the day was the 200-yard medley relay, which saw the Highlanders place fourth and sixth respectively. Sophomore
Whitney Friend (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) posted a personal best in the backstroke leg of the relay with a time of 27.81.
Kristi Freund (Newnan, Ga./Northgate),
Mandy Smith (Annandale, Va./Falls Church),
Kaitlyn Baker (Winchester, Va./James Woods),
Kathryn Ruch (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) and
Emily Turner (Baltimore, Md./Eastern Technical) each recorded a personal best. Freund captured two, one in the 100-yard butterfly while the other was in the 200-yard butterfly. Turner also tallied a personal best in the 100-yard butterfly as well. Baker recorded a personal best in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:52.70 while Ruch and Smith posted personal bests in the 200 and 500 freestyle, respectively.
The Highlanders will back in action Nov. 14 at 2 p.m. when they host Marshall and Campbell
