Baseball Travels to Tennessee for Tuesday Afternoon Tilt; Live Audio Available

Tuesday's Probable Starting Pitchers:

LHP Paul DeVito (1-0, 5.40 ERA) vs. RHP Stephen McCray (0-0 , 4.50)

Live audio of Tuesday's game will be available for free on RadfordAthletics.com, with the broadcast scheduled to begin at 3:50 p.m.  Patrick Reed will handle play-by-play duties.

The Highlanders (1-4) were originally scheduled to make a short trip to English Field in Blacksburg to face Virginia Tech Tuesday, while hosting West Virginia on Wednesday in Radford's home opener.

Radford will now open its 2009 home slate on Saturday, hosting Canisius in a doubleheader beginning at noon.

Tuesday's impromptu meeting between Radford and Tennessee is the fifth all-time: the Volunteers led the series 5-0, and the two teams last met in 2005.

Second-year skipper Todd Raleigh brings the Vols into Tuesday's game with a 1-4 mark.  Tennessee, losers of four straight, split its opening weekend series with 2006 and '07 College World Series champion Oregon State in Knoxville.

Center fielder Kentrail Davis, a freshman All-America pick by Baseball America in 2008, leads Tennessee at the plate this season, at .400/.625/.933 with two homers and three driven in.

Weekend Notebook:
−    The Highlanders played the first of five dates at affiliated minor league ballparks (Joe Riley Park, Charleston, S.C.) over the weekend, with two Friday games at The Citadel Memorial Challenge.
−    Saturday (Tennessee Tech) and Sunday (Marshall) were washed out.
−    In the afternoon game on Friday, the home-standing Bulldogs picked up one-run innings in the bottom of the first, third, fifth and seventh innings.
−    Radford junior Rick Hoogstraten came off the bench to deliver an RBI single with no outs in the top of the seventh put the Highlanders on the board; junior Tyren Rivers drove in another on a fielder's choice putout with the bases loaded.
−    In the first of three scheduled meetings with the Thundering Herd, Marshall jumped on Radford 7-0 through the first three innings in the nightcap.
−    Through five games, the freshman middle infield duo of Brett Mollenhauer and Jeff Kemp lead the Highlander regulars at the plate.  Mollenhauer (.368/.400/.526, 1 RBI) and Kemp (.333/.391/.476, 2 RBI) both carry a five-game hitting streak into the week's action.   At The Citadel Memorial Challenge, Kemp led Radford with four hits (4-of-8).
−    Senior first baseman Alex Gregory had a 14-game hit streak snapped against Marshall Friday night.
−    Radford's relief pitchers in the Friday set (Josh Constable, Josh Hammonds, Cassidy McDaniel, T.J. Woody) combined to allow just two earned runs while striking out seven in 7 2/3 innings of work.  The right-handed freshman Constable, making his collegiate debut on Friday night, struck out three in three frames with no earned runs.  McDaniel, a sophomore righty, struck out three in three, surrending just one earned.
