BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State opened up a nine-run lead through two innings and cruised to a 14-3 win over Radford in non-conference baseball at Jim and Bettie Smith Stadium Tuesday night.

First baseman David Towarnicky and left fielder Chris Alessandria each had four hits and three RBI for the Mountaineers (27-17), who won for the 14th time in 15 games and 21st in their last 24.   Towarnicky was perfect at the plate and added a walk, and Alessandria hit a two-run home run in the second.

Third baseman Issac Harrow went 3-for-5, and his second-inning two-run double made him the school's all-time leader in hits and doubles.  He added two RBI and three runs.

The Highlanders (20-18) lost their third straight and fourth in five games.  Junior right fielder Reggie Keen (Danville, Va./G.W.-Danville) went 2-for-3 to lead Radford and drove in a pair on a double to the right field corner in the second, making it a 9-2 game.

Four other Highlanders added hits, including senior first baseman Alex Gregory (Great Falls, Va./Paul VI) on his RBI double in the sixth.

Left-hander Andrew Webster fired 3 2/3 innings of relief, allowing one run on two hits, to earn the win (4-1) for Appalachian State.

Freshman left-hander Paul DeVito (Annapolis, Md./Archbishop Spalding) took the loss for Radford (2-1), allowing seven earned runs in two innings.

The Mountaineers plated six in the second on five straight two-out hits, highlighted by Harrow's double and Alessandria's homer.

Radford plays its sixth straight away from home Wednesday night at Virginia Tech.  First pitch is 5:30 p.m.
