Radford's baseball program will wrap up its preseason schedule with the 2010 Fall World Series, a best-of-three intrasquad championship beginning on Friday at Radford University Baseball Field.
Each of the seven-inning games will be open to the public. Should the series be decided on Saturday, Sunday's game will be played, regardless of the outcome.
“It's been more competitive this fall than it has been in the previous four years we've been here,” head coach
Joe Raccuia said. “There's more depth on the mound and more depth among the position players. We've had intrasquad games, but this is a true test of competition that will allow us to truly evaluate where we are.”
The Grey team, guided by
Rick Oliveri, features 2010 First Team All-Big South selection
Matt Hillsinger (.348/2 HR/36 RBI/15 SB) and 2009 Freshman All-America pick
Jeff Kemp (.337/5 HR/36 RBI/13 SB in '09).
“As the teams were picked, both ended up with good draws,” Oliveri said. “It's going to be a fun weekend with some really good baseball.”
GREY ROSTER
The Red team, led by
Kyle Werman, is led offensively by infielder
Brett Mollenhauer (.330/34 RBI) while featuring seven newcomers.
“I think we have evenly-matched teams that should make for a great weekend of competition,” Werman said. “There's been a lot of build-up and excitement for this weekend, and I think our guys will come ready to play.”
