VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Despite junior
Katie Shaffer breaking her own school record on the three-meter board, the Radford women's swimming and diving team fell to Old Dominion 130-102 Saturday at the J.C. "Scrap" Chandler Pool in the Student Recreation Center.
In addition to breaking her own school record, Shaffer qualified for the NCAA Zone Regional Meet with a score of 281.55.
“I could not be more proud of Katie for qualifying for the NCAA Zone meet,” commented second-year diving coach Kevin Schwenk. “Her determination, strength, will power and leadership skills are extremely apparent this year and I am so excited for what this season holds.”
Along with Shaffer, junior CeCe de la Garza and sophomore
Kathryn Ruch both touched the wall first in the 100-yard breaststroke and 500-yard freestyle, respectively. De la Garza recorded a personal-best 1:12.46, while Ruch turned in a time of 5:40.98.
Emily Turner and freshman
Jessica Frazelle both finished third in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke with times of 25.69 and 1:02.22, respectively.
Radford will return to the water Nov. 6 traveling to conference-foe Campbell at 2 p.m.
