LEXINGTON, Va. – The Radford women's cross country team finished second and the men boasted a third place showing at the season-opening VMI Cross Country Relays Friday afternoon.
"It was a good building block to the start of the season for both the men's team and women's team,” said head coach Sean Bossman.
The duo of freshman
Jessica Arneson and sophomore
Hannah Scheren led the way for the women placing third with a time of 38:48.00. The Highlanders'
Ashley Lounsbury and
Maggie Wissler also recorded a top 15 finish, placing 11th at 41:35.00.
On the men's side, Radford was led by a seventh place showing and a time of 42:51.00 by sophomore
Sam Keltner and newcomer
Brian Gorwitz.
Nathan Turner and
Chris Weeks also turned in strong showings, as the tandem crossed the finish line at 44:21.00, good enough for 13th place.
“It was good to see the underclassmen run for the first time in a college race and for everyone to get their competitive juices back," Bossman said. "There was some good and not so good, so we will learn from this and move on to the next meet."
The first individual meet for Radford comes on Saturday, Sept. 11 at the JMU Invitational.
