Radford Swimming & Diving hits the pool on Saturday at 2 p.m. as part of the University's Fall Homecoming Weekend. The Highlanders' senior class will be recognized prior to the start of the meet against VMI and Pfeiffer.
Before the meet Radford's six seniors, all four-year members of the program, will be recognized. This year's class consists of
Cecilia de la Garza (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg),
Whitney Friend (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle),
Julia Hoffman (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass),
Ashley Maness (Conway, S.C./Carolina Forest),
Madison Mantiply (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) and
Katie Shaffer (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes).
This will be the second contest of the season for Radford after opening up the 2011-12 campaign with a quad meet against Marshall, JMU and Campbell in the Dedmon Center Natatorium. Juniors
Emily Turner (Baltimore, Md./Eastern Technical) and
Colleen Miller (Kent Island, Md.), along with sophomore
Jessica Frazelle (Lexington, N.C./West Davidson) posted second place finishes. Turner added two more fifth place times.
Also, the 200 freestyle relay, consisting of the previously mentioned trio and freshman
Claire Doherty (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) and the 200 medley team of Miller, Frazelle, freshman
Jocelyn Long (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) and de la Garza each charted six place finishes.
Radford will test the waters on the road for the first time this season when it heads to Liberty on Oct. 28 for a dual meet at 5 p.m.
