DOBBINS, WESH SHINE ON FINAL DAY OF AKRON INVITATIONAL


COMPLETE RESULTS

AKRON, Ohio – Freshman Chris Dobbins leaped to a first-place finish in the long jump and Diane Wesh grabbed third in the 400m to highlight the final day of the Akron Invitational on Saturday.

Dobbins won top honors by recording a 6.92m/22-08.50 mark while Wesh shined on the women's side with a personal-best 58.12 in the 400. 

Elsewhere in the men's events, Kaise White had two Top-10 showings to his credit, finishing third in the 400 (49.69) and crossed the finish line in tenth with a mark of 22.38 in the 200.

In the 60-meter hurdles and 400m, junior Brett Olinger recorded fifth place and seventh-place showings with times of 8.35 and 49.85, respectively.  Olinger broke 8.30 for the first time in his career in the 60 hurdles with a personal-best 8.29 time in the prelims. 

Sophomore Sean Shelton also recorded a personal-best in the 800 (1:56.28), bettering his previous mark by 4.03 seconds.

After a solid first-day performance in the heptathlon, Phillip Hovatter finished with the third best mark in program history, compiling 4,328 points.

Junior transfer Curtis Hodge tallied his third consecutive Top-10 weight throw finish with a mark of 16.66m/54-08.00. 

Freshman Courtni Pannell recorded Radford's top 60-meter hurdle mark of the season with an 8.87 in the prelims, just .04 seconds off the school record mark.

After a full day of pentathlon action on Friday, freshman Amber Church turned around today with a fifth-place performance in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.00. 

Britney Whittaker recorded a season-best performance in the 800, crossing the finish line in 2:18.56.

Highlighting the field events was senior Nikki Roseberry, who cleared the high jump bar at 1.60m/5-03.00 for the second consecutive meet. 

“I was very pleased with our weekend as a whole,” commented assistant coach Mark White.  “We had some good performances and a few PR's.  Hopefully we can continue to build on this weekend as we head towards the indoor conference meet.”

The Highlanders return to Blacksburg, Va. next weekend, Feb. 18-19, when they compete in the Virginia Tech Challenge.
