HIGHLANDERS TO COMPETE IN VT CHALLENGE THIS WEEKEND

LIVE RESULTS

RADFORD, Va. –
The men and women's Radford track and field squads will head to Blacksburg this weekend when they compete in the Virginia Tech Challenge at Rector Field House.  Events are scheduled to begin Friday at 5 p.m.

Through four meets, the Highlanders have accumulated nine individual victories (three heptathlon events, one pentathlon event) and 38 top-5 showings (12 heptathlon events, 4 pentathlon events).

The 60-meter hurdles have been the strongest event for the men, as seven marks have entered the all-time top-10 already.

During the Liberty Open in late January, senior Bryan Wallace and freshman Chris Dobbins both eclipsed the school record mark of 8.28 with 8.23 and 8.27 times, respectively, in the finals.  It was Wallace who already owned the school record and shed 0.05 seconds off his personal-best time.

Junior captain Brett Olinger also surpassed 8.30 for the first time in his career with an 8.29 time at the Akron Invitational, good for fifth place.

Dobbins and Wallace also lead the long jumping crew, as Dobbins won the Akron Invitational with a 6.92m/22'8.50” leap, while Wallace won the Liberty Kickoff in December with a 6.88m/22'7” distance.

In the field events, Curtis Hodge is leading the way with three consecutive top-10 performances in the weight throw, an event in which he did not compete in before transferring to Radford.

On the women's side, the 400, 800 and 60-meter hurdles have been the highlight so far.  Freshman Diane Wesh ran her best 400m time of the season (58.12) at the Akron Invitational, which was her second consecutive third-place finish.

Courtni Pannell is quickly making her mark upon the Radford record books in the 60-meter hurdles, running the second-best time in program history with a 8.87 at Akron, just 0.04 seconds off the school record.

In the 800, Britney Whittaker has lowered her time in each meet, clocking a season-best 2:18.56 at Akron, representing a 3.35 decrease from the Liberty Open.
