RADFORD, Va. – The Radford track and field programs are set to compete in the Big South Championships Thursday and Friday at Clemson Indoor Track.
The Highlanders are poised to have a strong showing, as a number of athletes have been making huge strides throughout the previous meets leading up to the championships.
The strongest event for Radford will come in the 60-meter hurdles, as school record holder
Bryan Wallace, along with last year's all-conference selection
Brett Olinger and promising freshman
Chris Dobbins all have an excellent chance for a podium performance. On the women's side, school record holder
Courtni Pannell will lead the way with freshman
Amber Church prepared to run an all-conference race.
An athlete to watch out for is senior
Britney Whittaker, who has gotten faster with every meet in the 800m. A year ago, Whittaker finished third and hopes to take the conference crown this year, as she currently sits two seconds shy of the top mark in the Big South this year.
As always, the 4x400-meter relays will be a huge factor for the Highlanders, coming off a second-place finish a year ago at the championships and sixth at the VT Challenge last Saturday on the men's side.
In the field events, junior transfer
Curtis Hodge looks to make a name for himself in Radford throws when he competes among the league's best in the weight throw, while
Justin Smith, fresh off his best shot put performance of the season, looks to better his fifth-place showing at last year's indoor championships.
Tony Brown will also eye a second-consecutive indoor all-conference performance in the high jump.
