HIGHLANDERS POST EIGHT WINS AT NORTH CAROLINA A&T

GREENSBORO, N.C. –
Radford placed first and second in eight events and recorded a total of 21 top-2 finishes as it defeated North Carolina A&T, 159-79, in a Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) dual, Friday evening from Ellis F. Corbett Sports Center.
 
Seven different Highlanders and one relay squad posted triumphs in a meet that featured several 50 and 100-yard events and no diving.
 
Sophomore Jessica Frazelle got things going with a win in the 50 back, her fifth triumph this season. That would start a string of five straight 1-2 finishes.

Just minutes later Claire Doherty (pictured) and Madison Mantiply continued with victories in the 100 butterfly (1:01.45) and 50 free (26.19), respectively. Sophomores Haley Schweitzer and Meaghan Rowley completed the five-race win streak, touching first in the 100 free (58.05) and 100 backstroke (1:04.65).

In those previously mentioned races, Colleen MillerEmily TurnerCara ChanceMorgan Sullivan and Cecilia de la Garza followed closely behind their teammates. Miller's time of 29.84 is a new personal best.
 
In two of the final three individual events, the Highlanders took the top-4 spots in 500 free and 100 IM. Freshman Fallon Parker and Turner clocked in with top times of 5:35.41 and 1:04.31 in their respective races.

In the 100 IM, the battle for second and third came down to the wire as Schweitzer edged out Julia Hoffman by a mere .09 seconds. Hoffman also claimed a second in the 100 breaststroke.

Sydney Sweet did the same in the 200 and 500 freestyle, posting a personal-best in the later event with a time of 5:48.56. 

In the closest race of the night, Frazelle (28.00) was edged out of first by .05 seconds in the 50 fly. She and her teammates; Doherty (28.23), Miller (28.48) and Chance (28.50) all finished in a half-second's time of each other.

The Highlanders completed the meet with a 1-2 finish in the 200 freestyle relay. Turner, Frazelle, Doherty and Rowley came home with the victory (1:44.36) and the squad of Miller, Mantiply, Chance and Sullivan was 2.73 seconds behind them.

The Highlanders close out the regular season on Jan. 28 at Davidson, competing against the host Wildcats, Campbell and North Carolina A&T.
