HIGHLANDERS POST 14 TOP-10s AT CCSA DUALS; BEST HOWARD & N.C. A&T

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Divers Skye Hickling and Katie Shaffer went second and third on the one-meter board and Radford Swimming & Diving registered 14 top-10 finishes as it competed against six teams in the CCSA Duals on Saturday afternoon from Davidson's Cannon Natatorium Pool.

The Highlanders posted victories over North Carolina A&T (230-41) and Howard (210-66) as they competed in their final tune up before the CCSA Championships in February.

Hickling, a sophomore, bested her career-high by over 30 points with a score of 258.90, while the senior Shaffer totaled 242.00 points. The duo also grabbed a fourth (Shaffer/236.45) and a fifth (Hickling/214.65) on the 3-meter board.

Junior Emily Turnerand sophomores Jessica Frazelle and Haley Schweitzer each posted a pair of top-10 times.

Turner put in a fifth-place showing in the 200 IM (2:14.28) and a ninth-place finish in the 100 butterfly. She was also the anchor of the 200 medley relay squad that placed eighth (1:54.87).

Frazelle clocked in at 2:11.59, which was good for fourth in the 200 back and also added a 10th in the 200 free (2:02.17). She led off both the 200 medley and 400 freestyle eighth-place relays.

Schweitzer was a member of both relay squads and also grabbed ninth in the 100 (1:12.56) and 200 breaststroke (2:38.20). Freshman Claire Doherty, who anchored the 400 free relay, touched the wall at 2:17.12 in the 200 butterfly which was good for ninth.

Overall, Radford was 2-4 against the six squads. Along with the two triumphs, the Highlanders were defeated by host Davidson, Georgia Southern, Liberty and Campbell.

The Highlanders will be off until Feb. 16-18 for the 2012 CCSA Swimming & Diving Championships in Athens, Ga. The event will be held at Gabrielson Natatorium on the campus of the University of Georgia.
