Freshman Sarah Fredericksen Sets New Program Record in 1000

RESULTS

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior Emily Turner and freshman Sarah Fredericksen won two events as Radford swimming and diving opened the season with a 122-71 victory at North Carolina A&T on Friday evening in a Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) meet at the Corbett Sports Center.

In addition, Fredericksen's winning time of 10:59.59 in the 1,000 set a new program record previously held by Kristan Deckert (11:03.22) for almost seven years.

Along with Turner and Frederickson, freshman Mary Flinn, junior Jessica Frazelle, sophomore Haley Schweitzer and the 200 free relay squad earned victories as the Highlanders made first-year head coach Ian Coffey's debut successful.

Turner took home the top time in the 200 IM (2:17.60) and 100 free (56.70), while Frederickson cruised to triumphs in the 500 (5:18.81) and 1000 (10:59.59) freestyle in her first collegiate meet. I was the first sub 11:00 in program history.

Flynn (1:59.59) defeated Frazelle by two seconds in the 200 free. Later in the meet, Frazelle edged Flinn in the 100 back by .2 seconds, touching the pad at 1:01.41.

Schweitzer in the100 breast (1:12.34) and the 200 free relay team (1:43.95) wrapped up the evening for the Highlanders.
