RADFORD WOMEN SHINE AT BIG SOUTH CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS

ROCK HILL, S.C. –
Sparked by eight personal records shattered Saturday morning, the Radford women's cross country squad finished tied for eighth at the Big South Championships, while the men's team concluded the meet in eighth.
 
On the women's side, the Highlanders improved upon their 10th-place finish from a year ago by accumulating 239 points to tie Charleston Southern for eighth place. Liberty posted 40 points to win the team title, while Coastal Carolina was the runner-up with 72 points.
 
Leading Radford was Hannah Scheren, who finished the 5k course in a personal-best 19:20.55 to finish 37th out of 97 runners. Scheren was also named to the Big South all-academic team following the meet. Emily Marshall finished in 48th with a personal-best pace of 19:44.66, while Maggie Wissler ran the track in a personal-record 19:56.32 for a 54th-place performance.
 
Madeline Thomas finished in 58th with a personal-record time of 20:07.84, while Casey Clark set a PR of 20:51.51 to chart a 68th-place performance. Alyssa Walker crossed the finish line in a personal-best 21:07.37 to record a 72nd-place finish and Ashley Lounsbury was clocked at 21:26.03 to finish 81st. Sabrina Romano concluded in 86th with a time of 21:51.31, while Katie Hickey ran the course in a personal-best 22:18.41 to finish 89th. In all, seven personal records were set by the women's squad.
 
The Lady Flames' Jennifer Klugh took the top spot in the individual standings for the third straight year with a school-record time of 17:18.72 to finish six seconds ahead of Winthrop's Jeanne Stroud.
 
On the men's side, the Highlanders compiled 192 points and were led by Alan Weaver's 26:27.01 pace. Behind Weaver's 31st-place performance was Brian Gorwitz, who ran the course in 26:29.22 for a 32nd-place finish. Thomas Keefe's time of 26:51.06 put him in 41st place, while Chris Weeks finished in 49th with a pace of 27:03.50. Weeks was selected as a Big South all-academic honoree following the race.
 
Ryan Farnan (52nd) was clocked at 27:13.51 and Daniel Moniak (61st) ran the meet in 27:47.91. Finishing in 68th and 71st, respectively, was Sam Keltner (28:15.20) and Harrison Murn (28:37.77 - PR).
 
Liberty made it a sweep in the team standings when the Flames won the men's title with 28 points, followed by High Point (49) and Campbell (92). The Panthers' Jacob Smith claimed the individual title with a time of 24:35.79, which was four seconds better than Liberty's David Ricksecker.
