CAREER BESTS CONTINUE TO FALL ON DAY 2 OF CCSA CHAMPIONSHIPS

ATHENS, Ga. – Radford Swimming & Diving continued to post program top-10s and career bests on Day 2 of the 2012 Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) Championships at University of Georgia's Gabrielson Natatorium.

In all, 14 career marks fell, two new top-10 times were obtained and several more were improved on as the Highlanders concluded the second day of competition.

After two days, Radford sits in ninth place with 94 points.

Freshman
Claire Doherty (pictured top) registered the top finish for the Highlanders with a 17th-place showing in the 100 butterfly. Her time of 57.95, which is the second fastest in program history, eclipsed her season-best of 59.38.

She continued her strong rookie showing in the final race of the evening as she led off the 800 free relay with a 1:59.62, good for a top-10 in the program's annals.
Sophomore Jessica Frazelle clocked in with Radford's other top-20 finish with an 18th in the 100 back (59.20). Frazelle also added a personal best with a 28.03 lead leg in the 200 medley relay (Schweitzer, Doherty, Turner) which finished ninth (1:51.44). It was the best relay time of the season and .73 seconds off the school record.
Sophomore Haley Schweitzer (top right) and senior Julia Hoffman (bottom right) each posted a pair of personal bests. Schweitzer's were in the 400 IM (4:45.73), also a top-10 mark, and the 100 breaststroke (1:09.75). Hoffman garnered her bests in the 200 free (2:04.59) and 100 breast (1:11.56).

The 100 butterfly produced a single-day high four career-bests. Junior Emily Turner, freshman Fallon Parker and sophomore Cara Chance joined Doherty in Radford's fastest event of the prelims.

Turner registered her first sub-1:00 fly (59.73), while Parker was four seconds (1:04.81) faster than her previous best.

Meaghan Rowley, Colleen Miller, Madison Mantiply and Kathryn Ruch rounded out the career-bests in the 100 back and the 100 breaststroke, respectively.

In the first relay of the evening, Radford's A 200 medley squad consisting of Frazelle, Schweitzer, Doherty and Turner touched the wall at 1:51.44, good for ninth. It was the best time of the season and .73 second off the school record.


Earlier in the day, the B 200 medley team of Rowley, Schweitzer, Chance and Mantiply kicked off day 2 with a time of 1:55.88.

The final day of the meet resumes tomorrow at 10 am.
