SHAFFER, HICKLING 4TH AND 7TH; HIGHLANDERS FINISH 9th at CCSAs


RESULTS

ATHENS, Ga. – Senior Katie Shaffer (left) and sophomore Skye Hickling (right) highlighted the final day for Radford Swimming & Diving with a fourth and seventh place showing in the 3-meter board at the 2012 Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) Championships at University of Georgia's Gabrielson Natatorium.

.95) and Shaffer (220.45) qualified for the finals with third and ninth place showings in the prelims. Shaffer, taking advantage of a scratch, finished with 249.35 points in her final collegiate meet, while Hickling totaled 234.60 points.

The Highlanders concluded the meet in ninth place with 140 points. However, it was a very encouraging three days for head coach 
Randy Jarman as his ladies posted 28 personal best and six new top-10 times, while improving on several more top-10 marks.

“We had an incredible team effort and I am very proud of how competitive we were this weekend,” commented Jarman. “Our ladies swam really fast and our divers were awesome. Everyone had performances that were either lifetime or season-best efforts.”

Once again, freshman Claire Doherty registered the top individual swimming finish for the Highlanders with a 17th-place showing in the 200 butterfly. She was edged out of the evening session by .13 seconds, with a personal-best time of 2:09.87, which is now third fastest in program history. Classmate Fallon Parker (left)chimed in at 2:14.03, improving her career-best by over four seconds.

The 100 free saw four more personal-bests acquired by senior Madison Mantiply, junior Kathryn Ruch (right), sophomore Cara Chance and freshman Morgan Sullivan with times of 56.23, 58.30, 56.08 and 56.95, respectively. Junior Emily Turner turned in the top prelim time with a 55.23.

In the 200 back, junior Colleen Miller posted a career-best time of 2:12.15, while sophomore Jessica Frazelle clocked in at 2:09.57 with Radford's top mark in the event.

The 400 freestyle relay concluded the evening with a 10th-place showing. Turner led off with a 54.50, her top time this season and the second fastest in her career which was just a .10 seconds off her personal best. The final three Highlanders were Frazelle, sophomore Meaghan Rowley, and Miller, who helped post the fastest time this season by 3.6 seconds.
