HIGHLANDERS DROP CCSA DUAL AT FLORIDA GULF COAST

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Radford swimming and diving was defeated by four-time CCSA champion Florida Gulf Coast, 180-94, in a league meet on Monday afternoon from the FGCU Aquatic Center.

RESULTS

Junior Skye Hickling (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) placed third in the 1-meter board with a score of 231.35 with her classmate Alex Poletti (Afton, Va./Western Albemarle) coming in fourth (228.95). The duo also competed in a 3-meter synchronized event and recorded 175.80 points.
 
The swimming portion of the meet was heavy on the sprints with only three individual events (all freestyle) measuring 200-plus yards.
 
Freshman Sarah Fredericksen (Forest, Va./Jefferson Forest) turned in the third best time in the 100 butterfly (1:01.09) and fourth in both the 1000 freestyle (11:26.56) and 50 butterfly (27.77).
 
Senior Emily Turner (Baltimore, Md./Eastern Technical), junior Haley Schweitzer (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge), junior Jessica Frazelle (Lexington, N.C./West Davidson) and sophomore Claire Doherty (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) all added fourth place finishes.
 
Turner churned out a 2:04.31 in the 200 freestyle and also finished fifth in 100 freestyle (56.89). Schweitzer (1:16.97), Frazelle (26.93) and Doherty (1:03.04) posted their times in the 100 breaststroke, 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly, respectively.

The Highlanders return to the pool on Jan. 26 for a tri-meet at Saint Francis (Pa.) that also features Siena.
