SWIM & DIVE TREKS TO VMI FOR FIRST CCSA ROAD DUAL

After its Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) opener last week, the Radford swimming and diving team heads to Lexington, Va., this Saturday, Oct. 25 for a dual meet against conference foe VMI.  The squad hopes to bounce back after a league-opening defeat to Campbell when the Highlanders and Keydets get underway at 1:00 p.m. Diving will take place during the breaks.

Leading the Highlanders in individual finishes last week, sophomore Sarah Frederickson won both the 100 and 200 butterfly events with times of 59.59 and 2:08.52, respectively.  The victories were her second and third on the young season. She also took third-place in the 1000 free (10:57.24).

Radford had seven other top-3 finishes, highlighted by senior Jessica Frazelle, sophomore Mary Flinn, and senior Haley Schweitzer taking runner-up finishes in the 200 backstroke (2:18.10), 100 backstroke (1:01.70) and 200 breastroke (2:33), respectively.

Freshman Elena Acevedo added a third-place showing in the 200 freestyle.  She swam the event in 2:00.25, which constituted the ninth-best time in school history.  Her classmate Lindsey Anderson added a personal-best in the 200 butterfly (2:17.80).

The Keydets are coming off a 117-88 win against Howard and a 105-105 tie against NC A&T at their season-opening meet at home against a pair of CCSA foes. Action gets underway at 1 p.m. on the 26th at Clark King Pool in Lexington.
