RADFORD, Va.
– Radford jumped out to a 2-0 lead and held off a furious second half rally from Robert Morris to earn a 2-1 non-conference win on Sunday afternoon from RU Hockey Field.

Sophomore Marianna Parker scored the first goal and assisted junior Ashton Cox's eventual game-winner helping the Highlanders defeat the Colonials (7-4) for the sixth time in the seven-game series.

Radford took advantage of its corners and scored a pair of goals to take a 2-0 lead into the half. The Highlanders held a big advantage in shots, 9-2 and also out cornered the Colonials, 3-1.

Parker gave Radford a 1-0 lead over in the 20th minute. Parker redirected senior Alayna Versage's rip from the left for her team-leading fifth goal.

A little over nine minutes later, Cox doubled the Highlanders' lead to 2-0 in the 29th minute. Her first goal of the season came on the fourth attempt during a flurry of shots that were blocked and saved. Classmate Jennifer Hedrick, who injected the corner, grabbed the rebound of junior Sydney Myrdal's shot and found Parker, who fed Cox on the far post for the goal.

RMU keeper Erin McKenzie made all six of her saves in the first 35 minutes to keep the Colonials within striking distance.

After Radford hit the post in the first minute of the second half, RMU found a rythmn and recorded the final six shots of the game. However, senior Sidney Encarnacion would make three of her four save in the second stanza.

In latter stages of the match, Radford was able to avoid the tying goal. The Highlander defense snuffed out a RMU short as time expired and earlier in the 64th minute, a little luck was on their side as Jamie Hartley's deflected shot rang high off the post.

Radford outshot Robert Morris, 10-8 and each team earned three corners. Myrdal and sophomore Stacey Mackintosh each charted a game-best three shots.

Radford heads to head coach Jeff Woods' alma mater, James Madison, on Wednesday, Oct. 9 for an in-state contest against the Dukes at 7:00 p.m.
