SWIMMING & DIVING CELEBRATES SENIOR DAY AGAINST ODU & MARSHALL



RADFORD, Va. – Radford swimming & diving generated five top-3 finishes on the second day of its tri-meet against Old Dominion and Marshall as the Highlanders celebrated senior day on Saturday afternoon at Demdon Center Natatorium.
 
The Highlanders fell to the Monarchs, 217.50-133.50 and the Thundering Herd, 228-134.
 
Seniors Skye Hickling and Alex Poletti finished second in third on the three-meter board with 260.55 and 198.20 points, respectively. It was the second top-three finish of the meet for Poletti, who turned in a second-place performance on the one-meter yesterday.
 
Radford's 200 freestyle relay took home third, which included a 25.16 anchor leg by sophomore Yvonne Smith, the fastest leg of the entire race (five teams) as the Highlanders were edged out of second by .36 seconds. Senior Jessica Frazelle added a third in the 200 backstroke (2:13.35), her fastest time of the year. In one of the closest races of the day, sophomore Sarah Fredericksen was edged by Marshall's Sarah Kay in the 100 butterfly by .37 seconds after touching wall at 59.59, tying her second best time of the season.
 
Amongst family and friends, Radford's senior class consisting of Frazelle, Poletti, Hickling, Meaghan Rowley, Haley Schweitzer and Sydney Sweet was recognized prior to the meet by Athletics Director Robert Lineburg, head coach Ian Coffey and his staff.
 
Schweitzer and Sweet swam season-bests in the 400 IM (4:53.96) and 200 breaststroke (2:46.02), respectively.
 
Radford remains at home next weekend when it hosts the annual three-day Highlander Invitational from Nov. 21-23. The Highlanders will welcome Campbell, Mount St. Mary's, Millersville, N.C. A&T and UNC Asheville to the DC Natatorium.
