HIGHLANDERS EDGED BY UNC ASHEVILLE, 135-125

ASHEVILLE, VA. –
Sophomores Sarah Fredericksen and Mary Flinn earned victories and Radford finished at least second in all but one event, but was edged out in the final relay by UNC Asheville as it fell 135-125 on Friday evening in CCSA meet at the Justice Center pool.
 
Fredericksen added to her win total (7) with victories in the 200 (2:10.12), five second faster than her nearest competitor and 100 butterfly, while also placing second in the 1000 freestyle. Flinn topped the field in the 200 backstroke (2:15.78), edging teammate senior Jessica Frazelle by .14 seconds. Frazelle also turned in a second-place time (1:03.78) in the 100 backstroke.
 
Freshman Elena Acevedo and junior Claire Doherty posted multiple second-place finishes. Acevedo in the 100 and 500 freestyles, while Doherty's came in the 200 and 100 butterflies. Senior Haley Schweitzer, freshman Madeline Schouten, sophomore Yvonne Smith and freshman Lindsey Anderson all touched the wall second in their respective events.
 
In the final relay (200 freestyle) of the meet the Bulldogs edged the Highlanders by 1.5 seconds to hang on for the triumph.
 
Radford returns home next weekend, Oct. 15 & 16, for a two-day tri-meet against Marshall and Old Dominion. Tomorrow's scheduled meet at North Carolina A&T has been postponned. The two schools are working on a rescheduled date which will be posted on radfordathletics.com once it is finalized.
