WILLIAMSON AND FARNAN PACE CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS AT BIG SOUTH PREVIEW

MEN'S RESULTS  |  WOMEN'S RESULTS

BUENA VISTA, Va. - Teresa Williamson and Ryan Farnan led the Radford cross country teams Saturday at the Big South Preview with an eighth-place finish in the women's race and a 14th-place finish in the men's race, respectively. The Highlanders finished sixth in the men's overall and seventh in the women's overall results.

"All in all, I am pleased with today's performances," commented cross country coach Mackenzie Wartenberger. "It was a tough course and it showed in our times and places. However, I think both squads got a great feel for the championship course, and more importantly, we all have a more clear idea of what it will take for us to meet our goals of improving our program's showing in November."

Williamson ran for the first time this season, finishing the 5K course in 19:22.67. Emily Marshall finished 37th at 20:55.12 for the Highlanders, and Courtney Rice came across the line in 43rd at 21:02.34. The final two RU runners counting toward the team score were Malina Richardson (46th at 21:11.80) and Madeline Thomas (48th at 21:36.62).

The Highlanders finished with 182 team points, which was eight points behind VMI in sixth overall. Coastal Carolina won the women's race with 43 points, 10 clear of runner-up Liberty. Letitia Saayman paced the Chanticleers with her first-place performance of 18:18.17.

Farnan covered the 8K course in 27:40.34 to lead the Highlanders. Daniel Moniak placed 28th overall with a time of 28:41.58, and Chaz Porter posted 29:17.28 for 43rd place. Radford's final two scorers were Thomas Keefe (47th at 29:35.53) and Alan Weaver (48th at 29:52.69).

Radford finished with 180 team points. Coastal Carolina finished a place ahead of the Highlanders in fifth with 121 points. Behind five of its runners in the top 10 of the individual standings, Liberty won the men's race with 19 points. High Point was the runner-up with its 51 points.

"Ryan and Teresa stepped up to race with some of the top runners in what was their second and first meets of the year, respectively," Wartenberger said. "Their leadership will help us as we prepare for next weekend's races."

The Highlanders are back in action Sept. 28 at the Charlotte Invite hosted by the 49ers in Charlotte, N.C.
