FREDERICKSEN CLAIMS PAIR OF VICTORIES; HIGHLANDERS FALL IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE

RESULTS

RADFORD, Va. –
Sophomore Sarah Fredericksen picked up two more wins, but Radford swimming and diving fell to Saint Francis (Pa.), 146-111 in the regular season finale on Saturday afternoon at the Dedmon Center Natatorium.

It was the second straight meet and fifth time overall this season that Fredericksen won both two individual races. She opened with a convincing victory in the 200 butterfly (2:08.57), finishing 6.18 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor. Later in the afternoon, she edged Saint Francis' Catherine Rogers by .33 seconds in the 100 butterfly (59.32).

Senior Haley Schweitzer also had a strong day with two runner-up finishes in the 100 (1:11.72) and 200 breaststroke (2:37.85).

A trio of other Highlanders added second-place times. Coming off her first collegiate win last week, freshman Lindsey Anderson chopped 11 seconds off her personal best to claim second in the 1000 freestyle and post the third best time in program history (11:09.09) Junior Claire Doherty earned her runner-up status in the 200 butterfly, overcoming Mary Margaret Folz in the final five yards, out touching her at the wall with a time of 2:14.75. Sophomore Yvonne Smith added the fifth of the day with her 25.59 in the 50 free.

Joining Anderson with a top-10 time in the 1000 was her classmate Elena Acevedo's 11:16.85 good for ninth.

Sophomore Mary Flinn finished third in the 200 free and 200 back with the time of 2:00.39 in the freestyle being her second fastest of the season. Also placing third for the Highlanders were Anderson competing in the 500 (5:28.96) for the first time, senior Jessica Frazelle in the 100 backstroke (1:01.51) and freshman Madeline Schouten in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.51). Frazelle's race was the closest of the day as .3 seconds separated first from third.

Freshmen Allison Grecco and Deanna Friedel posted personal bests in the 200 backstroke (2:22.66) and 200 breaststroke (2:45.84), respectively.

Radford's trio of divers, Skye Hickling, Alex Poletti and Kelsey Parshall competed in an exhibition session prior to the meet.

The meet marked the final home competition for RU's six seniors; Frazelle, Hickling, Poletti, Meaghan Rowley, Schweitzer and Sydney Sweet.

Radford will recover and train over the next three weeks in preparation for the 2014 CCSA Championship being held from Feb. 19-22 at the University of Tennessee.
