CROSS COUNTRY LOOKS FOR STRONG FINISH AT BIG SOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS

KERNERSVILLE, N.C. - It's here. The biggest race of the year is upon us – the 2018 Big South Cross Country Championships, hosted by High Point. The race will take place on Friday as the women kick things off at 10:30 a.m., and the men get things started at 11:30 a.m.

One advantage the Highlanders hold this year is not only familiarity with their opposition, but with the course itself after competing at the HPU VertCross on October 12.

The Highlanders have had three races in 2018 to see what they're made of and have a lot of returners with great seasons. Juan Cisneros has led the charge in his sophomore season. He set a PR in the Queen City Invite with a 26:27.0 time. Redshirt junior Ashenafi Kidanu, who had the top finish of any returning Highlander at last year's conference championships, looks to close out the year on a high note.

Junior Mak Casey had a top 30 finish in last years Big South Championships and will try to best that this year. Pete Decker, Joe Spriggs, Joe Limo and Bethwel Cheruiyot are also geared up for the competition.

For the women, it's senior Percie Lyons who will be relied upon to pace the Highlanders. In her final Big South Championships, she has a real shot at earning all-conference merits. If she does, she will be the 10th Radford woman to be named All-Big South in the last 20 years.

Annsley Eckert looks to close out the season strong and a trio of freshman in Kayland Bond, Elise Fernandez and Chloe Phillips have all ran strong in their first year as Highlanders.

It's never easy to predict how an athlete will perform on any given day, but the Highlanders have put in the work and done what it takes to be successful come Friday.
