HIGHLANDERS FINISH STRONG AT VMI WINTER RELAYS

DAY ONE RECAP

LEXINGTON, Va. – More personal records and entries into the program record book made for a successful final day at the VMI Winter Relays.

Freshman Amelia Reynolds and sophomore La'Tisha Chambers were phenomenal in the 200-meter dash on Saturday, placing fourth and seventh out of 54 runners with times of 25.06 seconds and 25.21 seconds respectively. The times rank fifth and sixth in program history, surpassing Shanna Harris' time of 25.21 from 2008.

Reynolds also impressed with a seventh-place finish in the 60-meter dash, running a solid 7.78. The Monmouthshire, Wales native advanced to the 60-meter dash finals with a PR of 7.76 seconds yesterday.

In the 400-meter dash, freshman Ryan Paine ran a season-best 1:00.06 to place 11th out of 35 runners.

While it wasn't their best run of the season, Tenae Washington, Karah Foster and Alexis Stafford joined Paine for the 4x400-meter relay where they finished fifth out of 15 teams with a time of 4:02.46.

The distance medley relay team of Naomi Brindley, Madeline Tilley, Courtney Burton and Annsley Eckert made a big leap, topping its previous best of 13:15.67 from the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational with a time of 12:56.54 on Saturday.

In the long jump, sophomore Kierra Henderson delivered Radford's best leap of the season at 5.31 meters (17'5"). Sophomore Alexis Walton was just .02 meters off her PR by jumping 5.25 meters (17'2.75")

The Highlanders have their first weekend off of the indoor season next week, but they'll be using it to prepare for the 2018 Big South Indoor Championships which take place at Liberty on Feb. 23-24.
