ECKERT AND CISNEROS LEAD RADFORD IN VIRGINIA TECH INVITATIONAL

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Radford men's and women's cross country teams completed competition at the Virginia Tech Invitational on Friday and were lead by Annsley Eckert and Juan Cisneros on the trail.

"I thought we competed well today and stuck to our game plans on both the men's and women's side," first year head coach Sam Bradley said. "We are an extremely young team and still in the process of building early in the season. With only three workouts in the books to date, I thought we navigated the tough 4K and 6K races with great poise and maturity."

Eckert led the women's team with a 15:55 time, while Percie Lyons wasn't far behind with a 16:06 finish. A pair of freshmen in Kayland Bond and Chloe Phillips posted great times in their collegiate debut. Bond finished with a 16:15 time, while Phillips added a 16:36.

Cisneros coasted for the men and posted the top finish for the Highlanders with a 20:18 time in the 6K race. Freshman Bethwel Churiyot ran well in his first race as a Highlander. He ran the 6K in 21:03, while Mak Casey was right behind him with a 21:10. In his first 6K, Ashenafi Kidanu finished with a 22:03 time.

"Eckert and Lyons showed outstanding leadership qualities and spearheaded the team with a couple of strong performances whilst on the men's side and Cisneros battled hard to lead the team home," Bradley added. It was hugely pleasing to see some great collegiate debuts from the freshman. We are extremely excited to add Joe Limo and Pete Decker back into the fold in two weeks time down in Cary, N.C."

The men and women each posted a seventh place finish.

The cross country team will be back in action at the Adidas XC Challenge on Friday, September 14 at 6 p.m.
