HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Highlanders completed competition Friday afternoon with plenty of strong results to build off of going into future events.
"The weather was not optimal so to come away with top finishes and personal bests was outstanding," commented director of track and field Shelli Sayers.
DAY ONE
Radford started off the first day of competition in the javelin throw where Lauren Stuart made her first appearance of the week and placed fourth in her section. It was the only field event for the Highlanders, with most of the action coming later in the day from the distance runners.
Radford had a strong showing in the 1500-meter where Rachel Werking led the team with a third place overall, second place in her section finish. Her time of 4:43.06 was the fifth fastest time in program history. Werking wasn't the only Highlander to enter the top-10 list for the 1500-meter, as Rachel Millirons and Chloe Wellings also recorded times good enough for seventh and ninth all-time, respectively. Bond was a top-finishing Highlander in the event, finishing sixth overall with Savannah Hoff also winning her section.
DAY TWO
In the second day of competition Radford started things in the long jump where freshman Maddie Wright competed. This was the lone field event for the Highlanders on the day as the team competed in track events for the rest of the day.
The first track event was the 4x100-meter relay where the team finished fifth overall in the event. From there Wright made her second appearance of the day and set a new personal record in the 100-meter hurdles with a time still good for 10th in program history.
In the 400-meter event Brauna Lane was the only Highlander competing and finished in the front-half of the total field. After that was the 100-meter dash where Denisha Hoosier made her first appearance of the week placing fourth in a competitive flight.
The 200-meter dash was the last event at the Vertklasse Meet for Radford and it was highlighted by Felicia Hewitt's time of 25.52 which is now good for eighth in program history.
"Felicia and Maddie had huge breakthroughs today," added Sayers. "I was very impressed by Werking and Kayland's run on a cold, Thursday night as well."
